The Jekyll and Hyde woman

“You idiot! Nitwit! How many times must I tell you not to pass urine in the living room, you scoundrel! See, your pants are wet!” yelled the woman at the grown up boy. She was yelling in her mother tongue, of course, which was Tamil. I have roughly translated it. (By the way, a quick look in Google says that Tamil is the oldest living language in the world)

She pulled the boy, who limped, towards the wash room. The boy got more telling off from the woman in the wash room, while he was being cleaned up. The boy did not make a sound. He just let himself be handled in whatever way the woman wanted. The boy could not speak, for God did not give him that benefit. 

“If you did this again I am going to whack you until you remembered!” the woman shouted. 

 The 'boy' was a twenty eight years old youngster with ‘Down syndrome’. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder where children born with it tend to have physical or mental disabilities or both. He has both. He limps heavily and has the mentality of a three-year old. And also he cannot speak.That's three. Disabilities, I mean. Poor child!

Having cleaned up the boy, the woman toweled him up and took him to the room nearby to put clothes on him – a short pants and t-shirt. 

Suddenly she became all coyish and loving. She had forgotten all her anger and disappointment. She said “Come on dear, put on your shirt, put on your clothes so you can have your food”, in a voice that was now was all tender and soothing, “now dear, now, this hand goes here, right, right, now, that’s it, good boy! Clever boy!"

Now we all should know who the woman was. She was his mother.  

That was a true incident. It happens almost everyday. I should know. Because that child, that boy, that youngster, is my son. (This is a tribute to all those mothers with disabled children).

Black Lives Matter? Does it tell it all?

George Perry Floyd, a human being like you and me, had his life being ended unnecessarily in Minneapolis, USA on May 25, 2020.  We are all human beings, right? We do not mention ourselves as black human beings and white human beings. But once we declare ourselves as people of the world then the degrading starts; black man, white man, yellow man, brown man, blue man, green man, purple man, beige man, they are calling. What nonsense! How stupid can human beings get!

Talking about the color of the people, I do not really think George Floyd became a victim because he was black. And there is no reason for thousands of people to protest with “Black Lives Matter!” banners. It is not that the white people are superior to the black people and the black people are inferior. You will note that even the white Americans are disillusioned with that tragic incident, where a white policeman leg pressed the neck and stopped the breath of that unfortunate human being, George Floyd. 

Yes, lives matter, but not only the lives of black people. It is the lives of all of the minority people in a nation that matter. The race which is the majority in the populace of any country will always trample upon the minority race living in that country. The majority ‘feels’ superior and the minority are being forced to give in to them, grudgingly most of the times. Unfortunately, in USA, the black people are in the minority – about 13%. The Hispanics and Latino Americans are  ethnic minorities making up of about 18%. The police are in the majority.

Look at the countries around you ,In fact, I can say in all the countries of the world, the majority is always feeling more advantaged than the minority and their actions follow their emotions.

What the disadvantaged people should be shouting is “Minorities' Lives Matter! And they should be doing this around the world, whenever and wherever, they are being trodden on.

My fellow human being, George Floyd, I am sure you have opened the eyes of many people who are in their own domain. As the majority they have to respect the wishes and yearnings of the minority and not to trod upon them as they liked. God bless your soul, brother!

Frog porridge, anyone?

I have known and have heard about a few major races of people having included exotic animals as their food in their diets. I am sure you are also aware. The medias have made me hear of them and sometimes shown them eating deer, pangolins, snakes, and the poor monkeys; from where some say man came from (a great debatable topic, mind you!), horses, the amphibian in the title of this post, the worms, the insect varieties; beetles, bugs, grasshoppers, crickets, etc.....ugh!

I am writing this post because so far I have not seen those exotic diets being advertised and openly displayed for the public to see. Not in my country, Malaysia, anyway. That is why I was taken aback when I noticed a sign board on a shop declaring openly about frog porridge and chicken rice, the latter delicacy being nothing unusual. I saw it while I was driving along a street in Sitiawan, a north eastern town in Malaysia. I made a U-turn to snap a photo of that sign board which you can see above. I wonder how many sign boards are there displaying openly of exotic foods in Malaysia right now; snake soup, deeply fried beetles, worms fried in oily spice….escuse me..I have a nasty feeling in my stomach….!
