It is raining cats and dogs outside my house in the small town of Taiping in Malaysia. I can afford to whistle a tune while sitting in front of my computer. I can even afford to sing out “Rain drops keep falling on my head”. It is not that I am insensitive to the plight of the people affected by the floods. It is just that I just want to say how lucky I am to be able to do the things that I want to do. I very well know that the rain is not going to bring about devastation to me or to the people in Taiping, in the form of destructive floods. Anyway the government is there to bring quick relief to the flood victims.
Watching TV can sometimes be such a pain. They keep on showing the same advertisements again and again. They also show advertisements that keep on asking us to change to the latest technically improved TVs.
Why must I change to the new types of TVs? The stories and news are going to the same in the new TVs, as in my old faithful, aren’t they? Will the hero live in the new TV and die in the old one? Is there going to be a difference in the number of goals scored in a game shown in a new TV? Will the goalkeeper save a penalty kick in the new screen and miss the ball in the old tube! If he does, then I am going to change!
They say that in the new TVs that they term as LCD, LED, Plasma, or HDTVs, it is possible to bring out the pictures in 3D images. It will be so realistic that I might feel that the settings are brought into my living room itself! No, sir! I like complete privacy in my home. I don’t want any Avatars or Conans coming into my living room! And again, I wouldn’t like to be tempted to turn my head left and right to see whether ghosts or vampires are hiding somewhere nearby! Neither do I want to duck my head to avoid an oncoming arrow!
Ha! Ha! You go ahead, please. Buy the latest type of TV. Just allow me to come into your living room once in a while. Don’t worry, I will fore-announce it!
Oh, another thing! In Malaysia, the old TV, that we also call as analog TV will still be available for several more years yet. So I am saved!
